This is a rare vintage Zodiac automatic chronograph featuring the iconic 'destro' left-hand winding crown and two right-hand chronograph pushers. Inside beats the historic Calibre 11/12 movement, a legendary microrotor mechanism developed in a secret race against Zenith and Seiko to create the world's first automatic chronograph.
Story
In 1969, a Swiss consortium secretly raced to build the world's first automatic chronograph. The resulting Calibre 11 movement put the winding crown at 9 o'clock as proof the wearer never needed to wind it manually.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1882 by Ariste Calame in Le Locle, Switzerland, Zodiac became renowned for tool watches and precision engineering, famously pioneering the Sea Wolf dive watch. In the late 1960s and 1970s, Zodiac was part of the prestigious Chronomatic consortium alongside Heuer, Breitling, and Hamilton-Büren.
