Overview
An exquisite example of English bone china featuring a vibrant apple-green band and intricate 24k gold acid-etched borders. This 'London shape' demitasse set represents the pinnacle of Edwardian luxury, designed for the formal coffee service that followed multi-course dinners.
Story
In the early 1900s, this vibrant green was the height of fashion, often called 'Empire Green.' It was designed to glow under the newly installed electric chandeliers of high-society dining rooms across London and New York.
Maker / Origin
Cauldon was the successor to the legendary Brown-Westhead, Moore & Co., operating out of the famous Cauldon Place Works. They were renowned for supplying the world's most prestigious retailers, including Tiffany & Co., with porcelain that rivaled Sèvres in quality.
Condition & Value
The set appears to be in excellent vintage condition with the gilding remarkably intact. There is a small dark speck on the green band of the cup which appears to be a kiln firing flaw from production. Condition is a major value driver here. Individual Cauldon demitasse sets with heavy gilding typically sell in this range.
