In 1955, Christian Dior teamed up with Swarovski to create iridescent aurora borealis crystals. Soon after, mid-century jewelers paired them with silky frosted art glass to create glowing, space-age botanical designs.

While unsigned examples were widely produced by high-end costume jewelry workshops such as Kramer of New York, Juliana (DeLizza & Elster), Weiss, and Austrian exporters, they all shared a commitment to dramatic multi-layered stone setting.
