Overview

A die-struck metal membership or commemorative badge featuring the Kyffhäuser Monument silhouetted against a dark background.

Story

Following the devastation of World War I, millions of German soldiers returned to a fractured nation and sought solace in the 'Kyffhäuserbund,' a massive veterans' organization named after the mountain where legend says Emperor Barbarossa sleeps.

Maker / Origin

While often produced by various insignia workshops in German metalworking hubs like Lüdenscheid, these pins were commissioned by the Kyffhäuserbund, which was the largest umbrella organization for veterans' groups in Germany.

Condition & Value

The pin appears to be in very good vintage condition with minimal wear to the silver plating. The central black field shows some light surface scuffing consistent with age, but the text remains sharp and legible. Excellent preservation of the silvering generally commands the higher end of the price range.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
