Story

In 1945, during a foundry strike, Fred Ertl Sr. began melting defective aluminum aircraft pistons in his home furnace to make toy tractors. Deere & Company approved them, launching an iconic American toy dynasty.

Maker / Origin

Fred Ertl started casting toys in his basement and garage in Dubuque, Iowa, before expanding to Dyersville. Ertl became the world standard for licensed agricultural scale models, forming a legendary multi-decade partnership with John Deere that defined mid-century American childhoods.

Condition & Value

Displays heavy honest play wear, with substantial edge paint loss across the green frame, partial wear to the yellow 'JOHN DEERE' lettering, and significant surface rust/patina on the painted metal wheel rims. The casting and steering assembly remain structurally intact.
