Overview
This is a charming seven-piece collection of mid-century advertising ephemera, consisting of pocket-sized sewing kits, needle books, and thread cards. These items were distributed as promotional 'goodwill' gifts by local businesses, including Pilgrim Fabric Care Services of Huntington, West Virginia, Appalachian Life Insurance Company, and the Revco Drug Centers chain.
Story
During the mid-20th century, local businesses didn't just buy billboard space; they slipped useful, everyday tools directly into housewives' purses and pockets. These tiny sewing kits kept a company's name literally at a customer's fingertips during moments of minor domestic crisis.
Maker / Origin
While the promotional branding belongs to local regional businesses like Pilgrim Cleaners and Appalachian Life, the needle books themselves were often manufactured by specialty novelty companies, frequently importing the high-quality nickel-plated needles from West Germany or Japan during the post-war manufacturing boom.
Condition & Value
The collection is in good vintage condition with some light surface wear, minor creasing to the cardboard edges, and slight oxidation on a few of the older needles. Most of the original threads, needles, and small scissors remain intact, which is excellent for ephemera of this age.
