This style is characteristic of 'Swatow ware' (Zhangzhou ware), famous for its bold, spontaneous brushwork and expressive folk-art energy.
Story
Seventeenth-century Chinese kilns exported thousands of these expressive, hand-painted dishes across Southeast Asia and Japan. Unlike delicate court porcelain, Swatow ware was made for daily trade, resulting in wonderfully energetic and fluid dragon motifs.
Maker / Origin
Swatow wares were produced by folk kilns in Southern China rather than imperial workshops. Artisans worked rapidly using freehand overglaze enamels, giving every single dish an irreplaceable, highly expressive individual character.
Condition & Value
Appears to have light rim wear and minor enamel loss, consistent with age. Free of major visible cracks in the front view. Good condition preserves historical value well.
