Overview

This is a heavy-duty, two-bottom moldboard tractor plow designed for Category 1 three-point hitch systems. Featuring dual curved steel moldboards, rolling coulters, and a rear gauge/furrow wheel, it was engineered to slice, lift, and invert sod to prepare agricultural fields for planting.

Story

Postwar agriculture transformed rapidly after Harry Ferguson patented the modern 3-point hitch. This sturdy 2-bottom plow let small family farms prepare acres of soil in hours rather than grueling days.

Maker / Origin

While major agricultural manufacturers like Ferguson, Ford (Dearborn line), and International Harvester mass-produced these implements, they were often painted in signature reds or grays. Built from hardened forged steel and ductile iron, they were virtually indestructible workhorses of the 20th-century family farm.

Condition & Value

Shows honest working wear, surface rust, dirt buildup, and weathered red paint consistent with barn storage. Moldboard surfaces show minor oxidation but appear structurally intact without catastrophic frame cracks. Working condition typically sustains strong local utility value.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
