Overview
This is a beautiful hand-embroidered pink silk panel featuring a vibrant array of auspicious birds, including peacocks, cranes, and swallows, amidst blooming lotuses and peonies. Originally created as a decorative element for a traditional Chinese garment, such as a sleeve band or robe insert, it showcases the meticulous artistry of Chinese needlework.
Story
In early 20th-century China, every stitched bird carried a silent wish. This pink silk panel features peacocks for high rank and cranes for long life, acting as a wearable prayer for the wearer's prosperous future.
Maker / Origin
While the individual embroiderer remains anonymous, this panel was crafted within the highly organized workshop traditions of southern China, such as those in Canton or Suzhou.
Condition & Value
The embroidery threads appear remarkably bright and intact with minimal pulling. However, the pink silk ground shows some creasing, minor staining, and raw, unfinished edges where it was removed from its original garment or backing. The yellow paper backing is deteriorating and should be carefully stabilized.
