Overview
A collection of six vintage pulpboard beer coasters advertising Heineken, featuring classic mid-century import branding and a rare 1985 Amsterdam soccer tournament commemorative coaster. These pieces represent the golden age of European beer imports in America, distributed by the legendary Van Munching & Co.
Story
In 1933, Leo van Munching arrived in New York with the first post-Prohibition shipment of Heineken. These coasters, printed in West Germany, trace that historic import legacy straight to mid-century American tavern tables.
Maker / Origin
Van Munching & Co. was the exclusive U.S. importer of Heineken for decades, single-handedly establishing the green bottle as a symbol of premium taste. The coasters themselves were manufactured by specialized pulpboard printers in West Germany, renowned for their highly absorbent, durable barware.
Condition & Value
The coasters show light toning, minor edge wear, and faint staining consistent with age and light use. The colors remain remarkably bright, and the pulpboard is structurally sound with no major tears or heavy water warping. Good condition overall. Vintage beer coasters (tegestology) are highly collectible.
