Overview
These are heavy-duty, vitrified stoneware bowls designed specifically for the rigors of high-end restaurant service. Featuring the iconic 'Adobe' warm yellow glaze and a classic single-handle design, they were built to withstand the intense heat of a commercial broiler.
Story
In 1979, these bowls were the workhorses of American fine dining. Their thick walls held the heat of bubbling Gruyère cheese while the 'Adobe' color brought a sunny, Southwestern warmth to tables across the country.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1871, Syracuse China became the premier provider of durable 'hospitality' ware for railroads, hotels, and steamships. They were pioneers in developing 'vitrified' china, which is fired at such high temperatures that it becomes non-porous and incredibly chip-resistant.
Condition & Value
The glaze appears bright and glossy with minimal 'stacking wear.' There is some shelf soot on the unglazed foot ring which is typical and easily cleaned; no major cracks are visible. Excellent condition for restaurant ware. Individual bowls typically sell for $12-$18; a set of four in this vibrant Adobe yellow can fetch $60+.
