This Chinese export porcelain plate features a hand-painted underglaze blue river landscape with pavilions, trees, and flying birds, encircled by a speared inner border and floral rim motifs. Measuring approximately 22 cm, it reflects the classic Nanking or Canton style designed for Western dining tables during the maritime trade era.

Packed into the hulls of 18th-century merchant ships as ballast, these blue-and-white plates brought a romanticized vision of China right onto European and American dinner tables.
