Overview
This is a dramatic, Hollywood Regency-era table lamp designed to mimic an ancient Roman or Greek pedestal. It features heavy relief carvings of laurel wreaths, lion masks, Greek key borders, and a Corinthian-style capital top. While it looks like carved wood or heavy terracotta, it is actually made of molded cast resin with a multi-toned faux-wood and verdigris patina.
Story
In the 1970s and 80s, high-end decorators rejected minimalist modernism in favor of grand, historical drama. This lamp brought the romance of the Grand Tour directly into suburban living rooms. It transformed ancient stone monuments into functional, theatrical home lighting.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned, lamps of this style were popularized by high-end decorative manufacturers of the late 20th century, such as Marbro Lamp Company or Frederick Cooper. These companies specialized in taking classical architectural elements and scaling them up for dramatic, upscale residential interiors.
Condition & Value
The lamp base appears to be in very good vintage condition with no major chips or cracks to the resin. The faux-patina finish is well-preserved. The shade appears to be a later replacement. Excellent working condition and original wiring safety should be verified.
