Overview
A vintage white metal transit token featuring a distinctive central cutout of a beehive, the traditional symbol of Utah. One side reads 'GOOD FOR ONE FARE' with the signature of 'Fitzgerald', while the reverse reads 'S. L. C. LINES' and 'SALT LAKE CITY'.
Story
In 1944, National City Lines acquired Salt Lake City's streetcar system, replacing electric trolleys with buses. This token, featuring Utah's iconic beehive, was a daily necessity for thousands of commuters during and after WWII.
Maker / Origin
The token was issued by Salt Lake City Lines under the management of National City Lines, a holding company famously backed by General Motors, Firestone, and Standard Oil that systematically motorized US streetcar systems.
Condition & Value
The token shows moderate wear, surface scratches, and pocket-wear consistent with actual circulation. There is some minor dark tarnish in the recessed areas, which actually helps highlight the lettering and beehive design. Excellent preservation of the central cutout.
