Overview
This is a beautiful porcelain dish decorated in the classic 'famille rose' (fencai) palette, featuring a vibrant design of fruiting peach branches and bats. The underside bears a six-character apocryphal mark of the Yongzheng Emperor (r. 1723–1735) within a double circle.
Story
During the Qing dynasty, court artists designed peach and bat motifs as visual puns for the emperor. The word for bat, 'fu', sounds exactly like the word for good fortune, while peaches represent immortality.
Maker / Origin
While bearing the imperial mark of the Yongzheng Emperor, this dish is a high-quality 20th-century revival piece. Jingdezhen workshops have spent centuries perfecting the replication of imperial masterpieces, keeping ancient glaze and painting techniques alive.
Condition & Value
The dish appears to be in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or hairline fractures. The enamel painting remains bright and shows very little wear. Excellent condition helps maintain its value at the higher end of the range. Value is driven by the quality of the hand-painting and its decorative appeal.
