Overview
A pair of highly durable, rotomolded polyethylene sit-on-top ocean kayaks designed for recreational surf and coastal touring. The set includes a vibrant orange Scrambler 11 single-rider model and a pink-and-white faded Malibu Two tandem-capable model, both featuring molded-in footwells and self-bailing scupper holes.
Story
In 1971, a Malibu surfer chopped the top off a fiberglass kayak to create the first sit-on-top surfboard-hybrid. This backyard experiment in Southern California sparked a global paddlesports revolution, making the ocean accessible to everyone.
Maker / Origin
Ocean Kayak was founded by Tim Niemier in Malibu, California, before moving production to Washington state. Niemier's passion for diving and paddling led him to design the rotomolded plastic sit-on-top kayak, a design so successful it became the industry standard and was eventually acquired by Johnson Outdoors.
Condition & Value
The kayaks show typical cosmetic scuffing, sand wear, and minor UV fading consistent with outdoor beach storage. No major structural cracks or warping are visible, but the lack of included paddles, seats, or backrests slightly reduces the immediate resale value.
