Overview

A classic example of American Art Pottery featuring a rich, multi-toned green drip glaze over a globular form. This piece represents the experimental 'Vasekraft' era where the glaze itself, rather than painted…

Story

In the early 1900s, William Hill Fulper II transformed his family’s utilitarian drainpipe and jug business into a world-renowned art pottery studio by looking backward to ancient Chinese ceramic secrets.

Maker / Origin

Fulper Pottery is one of the oldest names in American ceramics, dating back to 1814, but it reached its artistic peak during the Arts and Crafts movement.

Condition & Value

The glaze shows some minor 'pinholing' and surface peppering, which are common manufacturing artifacts of this era. There is no visible evidence of cracks or significant rim chips. The stilt marks on the base are original to the making process and do not count as damage. Excellent preservation of the glaze gloss.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
