Story
Originally commissioned in the late 18th century, this design became legendary when John D. Rockefeller Jr. acquired a magnificent service in the 1920s. Every insect and fruit carried a wish for abundance and long life.
Maker / Origin
Produced by master export porcelain workshops in China, likely in Jingdezhen (for the porcelain body) and decorated in Canton. These artisans specialized in translating European botanical tastes through the lens of ancient Chinese overglaze enameling traditions (famille rose/polychrome palettes).
Condition & Value
Appears in very good condition with bright enamels, intact glaze, and only minor wear to the gilded rim consistent with age and display in a wire plate hanger. Wire hangers can cause rim rubbing, but good enamel retention supports solid value.
