Overview
A charming and sculptural three-legged chair featuring a deeply carved heart-shaped saddle seat and a minimalist spindle back. This design is a sophisticated Mid-Century evolution of the traditional European milking stool, blending rustic folk utility with modern organic lines.
Story
Post-war designers in Sweden looked to their rural roots to create 'modern' furniture. They took the humble three-legged stool—designed for uneven barn floors—and added a backrest to create a piece that was both stable and artistic.
Maker / Origin
While reminiscent of Goran Malmvall for Karl Andersson or the 'Birgitta' chairs, many of these were produced by skilled Scandinavian workshops during the 1950s craft revival. They represent the 'Swedish Modern' movement, which prioritized warmth and natural wood over industrial steel.
Condition & Value
The wood shows a beautiful honey-colored patina with minor surface abrasions consistent with age. The joinery appears tight, though the visible knots in the seat are natural characteristics of the wood. Original finish preservation adds significant value.
