Overview
An exquisite Edwardian-era bone china teacup and saucer set featuring a scalloped rim, cobalt blue border with gilded fleur-de-lis accents, and delicate hand-painted floral swags. The cup is designed with an elegant, angular gilded handle that showcases the high-quality craftsmanship of the historic Staffordshire potteries.
Story
Made in England's famous Potteries district during the early 1900s, this set survived the transition from Victorian opulence to Edwardian elegance. The hand-painted pattern number on the base connects it to a specific artisan's workbench.
Maker / Origin
Cauldon Ltd. traces its roots back to the famous Job Ridgway, who established the Cauldon Place Works in 1802. Renowned for producing exceptionally fine bone china that rivaled Minton and Worcester, the firm went through several name changes, becoming Cauldon Ltd. in 1905 before eventually being absorbed in the mid-20th century.
Condition & Value
The set appears to be in excellent antique condition with no visible chips, cracks, or crazing. There is very minor, expected shelf wear to the foot rims and minimal rubbing to the gold gilding on the cup's handle and rims. Excellent condition like this preserves the maximum value.
