Overview
This is an incredibly rare, one-of-a-kind instantaneous acetate disc recording featuring Hollywood bombshell Jayne Mansfield. Marked 'NOT FOR FAMILY LISTENING' and recorded at the home of actor James Mason on December 23, 1954, it represents a fascinating, highly provocative piece of lost Hollywood history. Acetates like this were cut directly in real-time and were never intended for public commercial release.
Story
On December 23, 1954, a secret recording was made at actor James Mason's home. This acetate captures a raw, uncensored moment of Jayne Mansfield just as her star was beginning to rise in Hollywood.
Maker / Origin
Western Recorders, located at 6000 Sunset Boulevard, was one of the most famous independent recording studios in Los Angeles. Founded in the 1940s, it later became part of United Western Recorders, hosting legendary sessions for artists like The Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley. This custom acetate represents their bespoke, private recording services for Hollywood's elite.
Condition & Value
The label shows light aging but remains highly legible with clear typing. The acetate surface appears to have some light dust and potential surface scuffs; because acetate is highly fragile and prone to degradation (palmitic acid white residue), its playability and physical stability will heavily dictate the final value.
