Overview

This is a hand-painted resin figurine titled 'Petit Coquerel' from the Land of Legend 'Jesters' collection by Lilliput Lane. Sculpted by artist Hap Henriksen, it features a mischievous jester reclining in a detailed rooster suit alongside a second rooster mask on a checkered stage. It comes complete with its original box, brochure, and sticker seal.

Story

In 1989, Lilliput Lane expanded beyond their famous English cottages to create 'Land of Legend,' a whimsical fantasy line. Sculptor Hap Henriksen drew inspiration from medieval court jesters who disguised themselves as cockerels during feast-day theatricals. Having the original box and paperwork intact makes this a rare survivor for fantasy collectors.

Maker / Origin

Founded in 1982 by David Tate in Cumbria, England, Lilliput Lane became world-famous for its extraordinarily detailed architectural miniatures. The 'Land of Legend' division allowed sculptors like Hap Henriksen to venture into folklore, myth, and fantasy figures, showcasing intricate texture work from feathered cloaks to checkered floorboards before the line was eventually discontinued.

Condition & Value

The figurine shows small white specks or minor paint loss along the raised edges of the tail feathers. The base, felt underside, original box, and accompanying booklet are in good overall condition. Minor chips reduce collector value by roughly 20-30%.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
