Overview
This is a classic Dual 1219 idler-wheel drive turntable, widely considered one of the finest record changers ever engineered. Housed in a handsome walnut-veneered wood plinth with its original dust cover, this model features a massive 7-pound dynamically balanced platter and a sophisticated gimbal-suspended tonearm.
Story
In 1969, West German engineers perfected the Dual 1219 to compete with high-end audiophile decks. Its massive platter was balanced so precisely that it could play records flawlessly even if the entire unit was tilted at a 45-degree angle.
Maker / Origin
Dual began in 1907 in Germany's Black Forest making spring-wound clockwork motors, eventually taking their name from the 'dual-power' motor they patented in 1927. By the 1970s, they were the largest manufacturer of turntables in Europe, legendary for their over-engineered, ultra-reliable mechanical assemblies.
Condition & Value
The turntable appears cosmetically intact with its original wood plinth and tinted dust cover. There is some dust accumulation, and the internal grease in these vintage German mechanisms almost always hardens over fifty years, requiring a professional clean-and-lube service to function properly.
