This is a finely potted Japanese porcelain serving dish modeled in the graceful, curved silhouette of an open folding fan (sensu). Decorated in overglaze enamels, it depicts a songbird calling beneath weeping willow branches and a setting sun, framed by a rich emerald-green scrolling border, complete with its fitted wooden storage box (tomobako).

In traditional Japanese Kaiseki dining, every season is served on dishware echoing nature. This fan-shaped mukozuke dish captures a bird singing beneath spring willows, blending fine porcelain art directly with culinary poetry.
Maker / Origin
Originating in Ishikawa prefecture, Kutani ware is legendary for its vibrant overglaze enamel palette—notably deep greens, yellows, blues, and reds known as 'Kutani gosai'. The underglaze blue mark on the base represents the 'Fuku' (good fortune) mark, a classic hallmark used by Kutani kilns to honor auspicious heritage.
Condition & Value
Appears to be in very good antique condition with intact enamel relief, minor firing specks (iron spots), and light age-related surface patina. The preservation of its original wooden box adds significantly to its presentation and value.
