Overview
A classic Southwestern graduated necklace featuring hand-soldered, fluted sterling silver 'bench beads' (often called Navajo Pearls). Each bi-conical bead is meticulously stamped with radiating lines to create a textured, melon-like shape, tapering elegantly toward a simple hook-and-eye clasp.
Story
Dating back to the late 1800s, Navajo silversmiths began melting silver coins to fashion hollow, protective beads. This necklace carries that legacy, using fluted 'melon' beads designed to catch the desert light with every movement.
Maker / Origin
While individual makers of bench beads are often anonymous due to a lack of signatures on traditional strung beads, they represent the collective genius of Navajo (Diné) artisans. These silversmiths passed down specialized stamping, doming, and soldering techniques through generations, turning raw silver sheet into wearable sculpture.
Condition & Value
The necklace shows a beautiful, natural patina with deep oxidation in the fluted recesses, which highlights the texture. The beads appear structurally sound without major denting, which is common for hollow silver beads. Excellent vintage condition; preserving the original patina is highly recommended to maintain its value.
