Overview
This striking art glass vase features a deep ruby red casing over a clear glass core, sculpted with a dramatic, organically ruffled rim. The lower body is decorated with traditional wheel-cut floral motifs, including a cross-hatched center that reveals the clear glass beneath. It represents a beautiful mid-century fusion of classic Bohemian glass-cutting techniques with modern, fluid forms.
Story
In the mid-20th century, Bohemian glassmakers behind the Iron Curtain revolutionized their craft. They blended centuries-old wheel-cutting traditions with bold, organic shapes to capture the attention of Western design markets.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned, this piece is highly characteristic of the skilled glassworks in the Nový Bor region of former Czechoslovakia, such as Egermann or Borské Sklo. These state-run enterprises employed master cutters who kept traditional techniques alive while adapting to modern, sculptural aesthetics.
Condition & Value
The vase appears to be in very good vintage condition with no visible chips or cracks along the delicate ruffled rim. Light shelf wear on the bottom is expected and normal; excellent preservation of the ruby casing maintains its value.
