Overview
This striking mid-century print features a stylized figure holding a rooster, set against a rich burgundy background with a faux-bamboo border. It is signed 'Terone', a known pseudonym used by legendary artist Tyrus Wong for his commercial decorative prints distributed by the Turner Manufacturing Company.
Story
During the 1950s, Chicago's Turner Manufacturing Company mass-produced stylish art prints to decorate suburban homes. To protect his prestigious fine art reputation, Disney legend Tyrus Wong signed these commercial Chinoiserie designs under the pseudonym 'Terone'.
Maker / Origin
Tyrus Wong was a pioneering Chinese-American artist best known as the lead illustrator for Disney's 1942 classic 'Bambi'. Despite facing severe racial discrimination, his atmospheric brushwork defined the look of mid-century animation, and he later designed popular ceramics, greeting cards, and home decor prints.
Condition & Value
The print is housed in what appears to be its original carved wooden frame. There is some minor surface dust and potential light fading to the burgundy background, but the colors remain relatively strong. The glass has some glare but appears intact. Excellent condition for these prints commands the higher end of the range.
