Overview
A stunning example of American Mid-Century Modern glass, featuring a rich amber-colored bell body with a clear, hand-pulled glass handle. This piece showcases the iconic 'organic' aesthetic of West Virginia art glass, complete with its original glass clapper suspended by a twisted metal chain.
Story
Blenko glass has graced the White House and stained glass windows of St. Patrick's Cathedral. This bell was designed to bring a touch of mid-century elegance to the family dinner table, turning a simple call to eat into a musical event.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1893 by William J. Blenko, the company became famous for its vibrant colors and bold, architectural forms. During the 1950s, design directors like Winslow Anderson and Wayne Husted transformed the company into a leader of the American Modernist movement.
Condition & Value
The glass appears free of chips or 'flea bites' along the delicate bottom rim. The metal chain shows minor oxidation consistent with age, which is typical for these pieces. Excellent condition overall. Blenko collectors highly prize original glass clappers, which are often lost or replaced.
