Overview

A classic hand-finished Norwegian forest troll featuring the signature 'cracked' latex skin and wild sheep's wool hair. These figures are iconic representations of Scandinavian folklore, designed to look as though they were birthed directly from the earth and stone.

Story

In 1964, Anton Beate began crafting these creatures in his shed in Tynset. Legend says if you treat your troll well, it brings luck; if you mistreat it, it causes mischief. This fellow is a guardian of the deep Norwegian woods.

Maker / Origin

Ny Form is the world's most famous producer of collectible trolls, known for their secret latex formula that ages to look like weathered bark. Each piece is hand-finished, meaning no two trolls have the exact same facial expression or hair placement.

Condition & Value

The latex appears well-preserved without the common 'melting' or severe crumbling seen in poorly stored examples. The hair is intact and the glass eyes retain their luster. Good condition significantly maintains the value of these organic-material collectibles. Vintage Ny Form trolls are highly collectible.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
