Overview
An elegant, turn-of-the-century hand-blown glass perfume or scent bottle featuring a delicate sterling silver overlay. The design showcases classic Art Nouveau organic styling, with sinuous silver bands wrapping around the bulbous body and matching stopper.
Story
At the turn of the 20th century, vanity tables were shrines of personal luxury. This bottle held precious, oil-based perfumes meant to be dabbed on with the stopper, acting as a quiet status symbol of Gilded Age refinement.
Maker / Origin
American silver makers like Alvin, Gorham, and La Pierre pioneered the electro-deposition process that made silver overlay on glass possible. These firms employed highly skilled artisans who hand-engraved the deposited silver to create breathtaking, fluid designs that defined the American Art Nouveau aesthetic.
Condition & Value
The bottle appears to be in good antique condition with a beautiful, natural dark patina on the silver. There is some typical light cloudiness inside the glass and minor wear to the collar, but the silver overlay remains intact without lifting. Excellent condition with no chips to the glass stopper or bottle neck commands a premium.
