Overview
A finely hand-knotted wool rug featuring an all-over Boteh (paisley) pattern set against a deep indigo field, framed by a rich madder-red border. The upper left border prominently features the woven 'HEREKE' signature, a mark synonymous with one of the world's most prestigious weaving centers.
Story
In 1843, Sultan Abdülmecid I established the Hereke Imperial Factory to produce the finest textiles for his grand palaces. This rug carries that royal legacy, weaving the ancient Persian Boteh motif—symbolizing life and eternity—into a masterpiece of Turkish craftsmanship.
Maker / Origin
The workshops of Hereke, Turkey, were originally founded to create court-quality carpets exclusively for Ottoman royalty and visiting foreign dignitaries.
Condition & Value
The rug appears to be in very good vintage condition with vibrant colors and intact fringe. There is some minor unevenness in the fringe length, which is typical for hand-knotted pieces, but no major staining or low spots in the pile are visible.
