Story

Laura Scudder, a former nurse and lawyer, started her food empire in 1926. She added peanut butter to her lineup in 1930 specifically to keep her delivery drivers employed during the winter months when potato chip sales typically slumped. This little bird in a boater hat became a symbol of her commitment to quality and her employees.

Maker / Origin

Laura Scudder was a true pioneer; she was the first female attorney in Ukiah, California, before becoming the 'Potato Chip Queen of the West.' She revolutionized the snack industry by inventing the sealed wax paper bag and was the first to ever print 'freshness dates' on food products. Her company remained a family-run powerhouse until it was sold in 1957.

Condition & Value

The label shows some expected age-toning, minor staining (foxing), and slight edge wear, but the graphics remain vibrant. The metal lid shows some surface oxidation and 'shelf wear' consistent with age. Overall, it is in good vintage condition; a pristine label would push the value toward the higher end of the range.
