Overview
This charming pair of handmade vintage folk dolls represents the traditional festive attire of the Kraków region in Poland. Produced under the state-sanctioned Cepelia cooperative, they feature highly detailed, miniature textile reproductions of regional costumes, including the man's iconic striped trousers and the woman's floral skirt, lace apron, and floral headpiece.
Story
During the Cold War, Poland preserved its rich cultural identity through state-sponsored craft cooperatives. These dolls were handmade in Kraków, carrying a design officially approved by the National Art and Ethnographic Commission.
Maker / Origin
These dolls were crafted by the Stanisław Wyspiański cooperative in Kraków, a branch of Cepelia (the Central Union of Folk and Artistic Industry). Established in 1949, Cepelia was a Polish state organization designed to preserve, promote, and export traditional Polish folk art and handicrafts, ensuring strict quality standards and authentic regional designs.
Condition & Value
Both dolls are in very good vintage condition with minimal fading to the textiles. The woman's hair braids and floral crown are intact, and the man's felt vest retains its tiny green tassels.
