Overview

This is a charming vintage American art pottery miniature planter finished in a classic off-white gloss glaze. Molded in the iconic shape of a traditional stepped-collar flower pot, the underside displays an embossed 'BEULER / USA' (or similar florist-line contract mark typical of Ohio valley commercial ware).

Story

During the 1940s, Ohio potters supplied millions of miniature planters to commercial florists. This little stepped pot brought cheerful greenery right into mid-century American kitchens.

Maker / Origin

The Nelson McCoy Pottery Company was founded in 1910 in Roseville, Ohio, at the epicenter of American clay manufacturing. Known for their functional, durable, and colorful stoneware and art pottery, McCoy became a beloved household name throughout the 20th century.

Condition & Value

Appears in very good vintage condition with no evident major chips, cracks, or heavy crazing visible in the glaze. Excellent preserved condition helps maintain top retail interest for small vintage planters.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
