Made in Jingdezhen and shipped via the port of Canton, they defined Western dining luxury. Each scene captures a romanticized, peaceful Chinese landscape that captivated foreign buyers.

Painters applied cobalt oxide onto unfired clay with remarkable speed before the pieces were glazed and fired at high temperatures.
