Overview
This is a beautifully detailed, limited-edition tinplate clockwork toy car modeled after the famous 1920s 'Taximetro' (Taxi) by the Spanish manufacturer Paya. It features a lithographed tin body, an open driver's compartment with a chauffeur figure, opening passenger doors, and a working wind-up mechanism.
Story
In 1905, the Paya brothers transformed a small tin workshop in Spain into a toy empire. Decades later, they recovered their original 1920s tooling to create limited-edition runs of their most iconic, whimsical designs.
Maker / Origin
Paya Hermanos was founded in Ibi, Spain, by Rafael, Pascual, and Emilio Paya. They became the most famous Spanish toy manufacturer of the 20th century, renowned for their high-quality lithographed tinplate toys. In the late 20th century, the company celebrated its heritage by releasing limited, numbered runs of their classic pre-war designs using original machinery and techniques.
Condition & Value
The toy appears to be in excellent, near-mint cosmetic condition with minimal paint wear or scratching. The original box shows light storage wear, and the certificate of authenticity is present. The functional state of the clockwork motor is untested but visually clean.
