Overview
An exceptionally fine, custom-built hourglass mountain dulcimer featuring flame maple sides and bookmatched back with decorative purfling. It showcases intricate carved nautilus-shell soundholes, an ebony or rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl floral inlays, and an elegant violin-style scroll peghead with friction pegs.
Story
Born from 1980s Pacific Northwest luthier artistry, this dulcimer turns Appalachian folk tradition into master woodcraft with flame maple and nautilus soundholes.
Maker / Origin
Attributed to regional craft luthier Gene Paul Roach working out of Portland, Oregon in the mid-1980s. Independent Pacific Northwest luthiers of this era brought classical violin-making techniques and exotic regional tonewoods to traditional American folk instruments.
Condition & Value
Appears to be in excellent aesthetic and structural condition with bright, unmarred finish and intact purfling; currently unstrung, which requires restringing and setup for full playability. The lack of strings is routine maintenance and does not significantly impair market value.
