Overview
This is a quintessential piece of the original American Girl collection: Samantha Parkington's Victorian-style brass bed. It features a polished brass-finish frame with elegant scrollwork and includes the original white eyelet bedding and pink-tufted comforter.
Story
Pleasant Rowland launched this line in 1986 to teach girls history through play. Samantha represented 1904, and this bed was designed to reflect the burgeoning middle-class luxury of the Edwardian era. It turned a toy into a time machine.
Maker / Origin
Pleasant Company was founded by educator Pleasant Rowland, who famously used her royalty checks from a textbook series to fund the startup. Before being sold to Mattel in 1998, the company was known for its museum-quality attention to historical detail and high-end materials.
Condition & Value
The brass shows some minor tarnishing consistent with age, and the bedding appears slightly yellowed but intact. The presence of the original comforter with pink ties significantly maintains the value. Condition is good; professional cleaning of the brass could increase appeal.
