Overview
This is a classic collection of vintage CorningWare in the iconic Blue Cornflower pattern, featuring three lidded casserole dishes and a matching stovetop coffee percolator. Introduced in 1958, this pattern became the quintessential symbol of mid-century American kitchens, celebrated for its clean white Pyroceram body and simple blue floral motif.
Story
In 1958, Corning Glass Works revolutionized home cooking by introducing a space-age ceramic material originally developed for guided missile nose cones. The simple blue cornflower design, created by artist Joseph Baum, became an instant icon of suburban American domesticity.
Maker / Origin
Corning Glass Works, founded in 1851, was a pioneer in glass science. Their breakthrough came when chemist S. Donald Stookey accidentally overheated a piece of photosensitive glass to 900°C; instead of melting, it turned into a milky white, thermal-shock-resistant crystalline ceramic that could withstand extreme temperature swings.
Condition & Value
The pieces appear to be in good vintage condition with bright decals. The glass lids are present, though the metal band on the percolator should be inspected for tight fit and rust. Minor metal utensil marks on the white interiors are common but can reduce value if severe.
