Overview
This is a beautifully preserved, hand-carved and pyrographed (wood-burned) lidded trinket box made of light-colored native European hardwood. It features traditional Polish highlander (Goral) geometric and floral motifs, complete with its original paper workshop label on the underside.
Story
Deep in the Carpathian Mountains of Poland, mid-century artisans kept centuries-old folk traditions alive under state-approved craft cooperatives. This box was born in Nowy Sącz, carrying the symbolic geometric patterns meant to bring good fortune.
Maker / Origin
The piece was produced by 'Sądeczanka', a regional craft cooperative based on Pijarska Street in Nowy Sącz, Poland. These cooperatives were vital during the Soviet era, organizing local folk artists to ensure traditional Carpathian woodcarving techniques survived and found markets both domestically and abroad.
Condition & Value
The box is in excellent vintage condition with minimal wear. The wood-burned details remain sharp and dark, the wood has a warm natural patina, and the original paper label on the underside is remarkably intact with only minor staining. Excellent condition preserves the maximum value.
