Overview
This unique pendant features an authentic blue vulcanized fiber ration token issued by the Canadian government during World War II. The token, reading 'CANADA RATION' and 'MEAT / VIANDE', has been preserved under a clear protective dome and set into a modern silver-tone bezel to be worn as a piece of historical jewelry.
Story
In 1942, Canada introduced rationing to ensure fair distribution of food and support troops overseas. These small, durable blue fiber tokens were handed to shopkeepers in exchange for meat, serving as a daily reminder of the home front's quiet sacrifices. Today, this token has been rescued from a dusty drawer and transformed into a wearable piece of living history.
Maker / Origin
The token itself was produced by the Canadian government's Wartime Prices and Trade Board, which managed the domestic economy during the war. The modern pendant setting is an anonymous artisan creation, designed to upcycle and preserve historical ephemera for a new generation.
Condition & Value
The embedded WWII token is in excellent vintage condition with very clear, legible lettering and minimal fading to the blue fiber. The modern silver-tone pendant setting and bail are in brand-new, unworn condition with no signs of tarnish or wear. Excellent preservation of the historical element.
