Overview
This is a handcrafted 4-string elliptical 'elliptical/teardrop' style Appalachian mountain dulcimer. It features a solid spruce or cedar soundboard, hardwood fretboard and back, geared planetary-style tuners, and distinctive custom geometric soundholes.
Story
Born deep in the Appalachian Mountains, dulcimers were crafted from local woods so mountain families could play traditional folk tunes on front porches. This 1970s revival piece carries forward centuries of American folk heritage.
Maker / Origin
During the American folk music revival of the 1960s and 70s, independent luthiers across the eastern United States built dulcimers by hand, often incorporating individual artistic touches like the custom scroll carving and stylized soundholes seen here.
Condition & Value
Appears to be in very good, structurally sound condition with light surface wear, intact frets, and fully strung. As with all vintage stringed instruments, excellent structural health and straight neck alignment preserve value.
