Overview
This is a vintage plastic-domed souvenir pin featuring 'Misha' (Mikhail Potapych Toptygin), the beloved mascot of the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympics. The reverse side features a simple safety pin clasp, the original price of 'Ц50К' (50 Kopecks), and a Soviet factory logo.
Story
In 1980, Moscow hosted the Summer Olympics amidst intense Cold War tensions and a major US-led boycott. Amidst the political storm, this smiling little bear cub captured hearts worldwide, becoming the first mascot to achieve massive global commercial success.
Maker / Origin
Misha was designed by renowned children's book illustrator Victor Chizhikov, who spent six months sketching hundreds of bears before finalizing this design. The pin itself was mass-produced by a state-sanctioned Soviet plastics factory, as indicated by the stylized logo molded into the back.
Condition & Value
The pin is in excellent vintage condition. The clear plastic dome shows minimal scratching, and the colors of the paper insert remain vibrant. The brass pin on the reverse is intact and functional. Excellent condition like this commands the higher end of the value range.
