Overview
This is a stunning set of five Chinese porcelain bowls featuring a vibrant imperial yellow ground decorated with hand-painted 'famille rose' enamels depicting birds, flowers, and gnarled branches. Each bowl bears a six-character underglaze blue mark on the base reading 'Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi' (Great Qing Kangxi Period Made), though they are later revival pieces crafted in the late Qing Dynasty or Republic period.
Story
Imperial yellow was historically reserved strictly for the Chinese Emperor and his immediate family. These bowls represent a later era when the merchant class sought to capture the forbidden luxury of the imperial court.
Maker / Origin
While bearing the mark of the great Emperor Kangxi (who ruled 1661-1722), these bowls were crafted by skilled, anonymous artisans in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, workshops specialized in recreating the highly prized designs of the early Qing Dynasty to meet intense global demand.
Condition & Value
Based on the photos, the bowls appear to be in very good condition with no obvious cracks, chips, or major enamel loss. The underglaze blue marks are clear and well-centered. Excellent condition for a set of five greatly preserves their value, as matching sets are easily broken up over time.
