Overview
This is an exceptionally large, monumental Chinese porcelain floor vase decorated in the vibrant Famille Rose palette. It features hand-painted panels depicting birds and lush peonies, surrounded by dense millefleur (thousand flowers) patterns and calligraphic inscriptions. Vases of this grand scale are designed as dramatic statement pieces for entryways, symbolizing wealth, prosperity, and hospitality.
Story
During the late 20th century, historic kilns in Jingdezhen revived imperial-scale porcelain production. This massive vase was hand-decorated to bring traditional symbols of spring, wealth, and harmony into modern grand homes.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned by a single master artist, this vase represents the collaborative workshop tradition of Jingdezhen, the historic porcelain capital of China. For over a thousand years, these workshops have divided labor among specialists—some throwing the massive clay bodies, others painting the intricate floral borders, and master calligraphers adding the poetic inscriptions.
Condition & Value
The vase appears to be in excellent structural condition with no visible cracks, major chips, or structural repairs. There is minor wear to the gilt highlights along the rim and shoulders, which is typical for decorative porcelain of this age.
