Overview
An exquisite Chinese porcelain plate featuring a central underglaze blue five-clawed imperial dragon chasing a flaming pearl, surrounded by a delicate 'rice-grain' translucent border. The underside bears a six-character apocryphal Kangxi reign mark written in underglaze blue within a double ring.
Story
Crafted in Jingdezhen, this plate features a dragon chasing a flaming pearl, a symbol of wisdom. The translucent 'rice-grain' border was created by cutting tiny holes in the clay and filling them with clear glaze before firing.
Maker / Origin
While bearing a mark honoring the great Emperor Kangxi (1662-1722), this plate was crafted by skilled, unnamed artisans in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these workshops revived classic imperial designs with incredible technical skill to meet a booming global demand.
Condition & Value
The plate appears to be in very good condition with no visible cracks, chips, or major glaze losses in the photos. There is minor shelf wear to the unglazed foot rim, which is consistent with age. Excellent condition preserves the maximum value for this type of porcelain.
