Overview
A beautiful trio of Irish Belleek porcelain, featuring a large double-handled circular tray in a radiating basketweave pattern, paired with a small shell-themed 'Neptune' style creamer and matching waste bowl. Each piece is finished in Belleek's signature iridescent pearlescent glaze, which gives the delicate parian clay its famous ethereal, shell-like glow.
Story
In 1857, John Caldwell Bloomfield founded Belleek in a remote Irish village to create local employment during the post-famine era. He discovered that the local clay was rich in feldspar, the secret ingredient for this impossibly thin, translucent porcelain.
Maker / Origin
Belleek Pottery is one of the oldest and most prestigious craft potteries in Ireland. Renowned for its incredibly thin, translucent 'parian' porcelain, the company gained international fame in the Victorian era for its marine-inspired designs and intricate woven baskets, which were collected by royalty including Queen Victoria.
Condition & Value
The pieces appear to be in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or wear to the delicate pearlescent glaze. Because parian porcelain is notoriously fragile, any small flea bites or hairline cracks on the scalloped edges would reduce the value by 30-50%.
