Overview
This is a remarkably preserved mid-century cardboard and tin container housing its original Carlton plastic shuttlecocks. Co-branded by the legendary American sporting goods giant Spalding and the British innovators at Carlton, this set represents the cutting edge of post-war synthetic sporting technology.
Story
In 1953, British inventor William Carlton patented the first injection-molded plastic shuttlecock, forever changing badminton. This tube features global patents from long-lost territories like Tanganyika and Northern Rhodesia, capturing a fleeting moment in geopolitical history.
Maker / Origin
Carlton Shuttlecocks was founded in England by William Carlton, a visionary who recognized that traditional goose-feather shuttlecocks were too fragile and expensive for casual backyard players. By perfecting the aerodynamics of molded synthetic polymers, Carlton became the world's leading manufacturer of nylon shuttlecocks.
Condition & Value
The cardboard tube shows minor surface scuffing and light age-toning but remains structurally sound with vibrant blue and white graphics. The metal lid and base exhibit typical oxidation and surface rust consistent with age, but the stamped 'PACA LIVERPOOL' mark remains legible.
