Overview

A striking pair of vintage Swarovski gold-plated pierced earrings featuring a bold, textured sunburst swirl design. The high-relief, ribbed circular form is dramatically punctuated by a smooth, polished gold-tone scroll that curls inward, creating a beautiful play of light and shadow.

Story

In the 1980s, Swarovski expanded beyond loose crystals to dominate the high-end fashion jewelry market. These earrings bear the company's iconic vintage 'S.A.L.' mark, used before they transitioned to their famous swan logo.

Maker / Origin

Founded in Austria in 1895 by Daniel Swarovski, the company revolutionized crystal cutting with a patented electric machine. In 1977, they launched their own jewelry line, initially using the 'S.A.L.' (Swarovski America Ltd.) hallmark from 1977 to 1988 before adopting the signature swan mark.

Condition & Value

The earrings appear to be in excellent vintage condition with very bright, even gold plating and minimal wear. The posts are straight, and the 'S.A.L.' maker's mark is crisp and clearly legible on the reverse of both earrings.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
