Overview
A whimsical set of four novelty champagne flutes featuring hand-painted resin stems sculpted as the four queens from a deck of playing cards: Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, and Spades. Each queen is depicted in stylized medieval attire, holding up the glass bowl as a caryatid-style support.
Story
Introduced during the height of the late-90s novelty giftware boom, these whimsical flutes brought theatrical flair to New Year's Eve and poker nights. They turn the traditional, flat faces of playing cards into three-dimensional, hand-painted characters.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1976 as part of Bachman's florist in Minnesota, Department 56 became a household name famous for its highly detailed ceramic Christmas villages. In the late 1990s, they expanded their creative reach into high-concept, theatrical hostessing and giftware lines like these sculptural flutes.
Condition & Value
The flutes appear to be in excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or paint loss on the resin figures. The glass bowls are clear and free of cloudiness. To preserve the hand-painted resin bases, these must be hand-washed only.
